Yamaha motors ahead with marine centre

Yamaha Motor Europe a Marine European Engineering Centre near Rotterdam, The Netherlands, making it the only industry brand offering an engineering standard testing protocol and personalised testing to boat builders in Europe.

The centre’s location provides the best atmospheric and aquatic conditions for testing marine engines on boats all year long and will prove useful to OEMs (Outboard Engine Manufacturers).

It provides boat builders with everything that Yamaha has to offer in one central place, allowing them to extensively test different marine engines, mounting and propeller configurations creating the best possible set up.

In addition, with this new centralised set up, Yamaha and boat builders will increase efficiency, reduce excessive transport of boats and equipment and therefore reduce their carbon footprint.

Yamaha can provide boat builders with full test results, using advanced testing equipment and data recording – all through a standard protocol, so that the results are comparable and reliable.

Afterwards, tests data can be collected for knowledge and research purposes, allowing Yamaha and its partners, to make improvements on their products. Ultimately, this gives boat builders the possibility to increase the efficiency in their product planning and development.

In addition, in collaboration with its facilities at Yamaha Motor Corporation in the United States, this site will also support Yamaha’s efforts in the electric motor development, in line with best sustainability practices and market demand.

Fabrice Lacoume, marine director of Yamaha Motor Europe, said: “It is with great sense of commitment and joy that we open this one-of-its-kind engineering centre to support collaboration with boat builders, through boat testing and homologation.

“We believe this centre will truly make a difference to boat builders, at the same time contributing to our global marine sustainability goals.”
