EFTTA summit will shape the future of angling

The first-ever Angling Summit, organised and run by the European Fishing Tackle Trade Association (EFTTA), will present a packed programme of talks, discussions and information designed to shape the future of our sport.

Details of the day, taking place immediately before the giant Angling World Berlin show on November 28th, have now been released.

Staged at hub27 on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds in Germany, the summit will focus on areas including legislation and regulation, sustainable angling practices, the sport’s socio-economic impact, cross-border co-operation and networking and angling ethics and social responsibility.

The event will also focus on the future of angling in Europe, including a long-term vision for the sport and how to ensure its continuity through youth and upcoming generations of anglers.

The whole industry is being invited to attend and EFTTA promises updates on European fisheries policy including the latest on lead, single-use plastic, packaging and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) angling – lead ban, single use plastic, packaging, EPR, along with details on Marine-Protected Areas (MPAs).

It will look at threats to the angling industry, the environmental impact of anglers, catch and release techniques and responsible use of equipment, including the latest eco-friendly tackle.

There will be information on how to establish the true market value of angling and its socio-economic impact, with sessions looking at how to identify participants, the effect on tourism and local economies and industry trends and what they mean for the wider trade.

A special focus will be on enhancing trade relations through cross-border working, opportunities for joint initiatives and industry networking, designed to facilitate connections between businesses, regulators and angling organisations.

Mindful of recent conversations around animal welfare, the summit will also outline how we can ensure humane treatment of fish and other aquatic life.

Meanwhile the topic of social inclusion will consider how to promote angling as an inclusive activity accessible to all, regardless of background or physical ability along with the sport’s benefits for mental well-being and stress relief.

The EFTTA Angling Summit will provide the ideal B2B curtain-raiser to Europe’s biggest consumer fishing show – Angling World Berlin, running from November 29th to December 1st.

Angling World Berlin project manager, Felix Steinacker, said: “We are confident that the EFTTA Angling Summit will offer an excellent platform for exchange and networking on an international stage.

“With this strategic step, we are not only putting a stronger focus on the B2B sector and opening a new B2B segment here in Berlin for our exhibitors and the international industry but this also underscores the growing internationalisation of our fair.”

Ross Honey, Angling Spirit founder and EFTTA board member, added: “This event will provide an unparalleled platform for industry leaders to collaborate, share insights, and drive the future of fishing tackle and trade. We are excited about the opportunities this summit presents for fostering innovation and strengthening our network.”

The conference day is expected to conclude with a dinner and networking event on the evening of November 28th.
