Welsh fly line and tackle manufacturer Airflo has boosted its environmental efforts by backing the UK Anglers National Line Recycling Scheme initiative

The firm, which was acquired by US-based Mayfly Group – which owns Ross and Abel Reels –in 2019, wants to encourage its customers to recycle old fly lines rather than add them to the increasing problem of landfill.

Donald Cooke, the company with major fishing brands Rod Hutchinson & Bait-Tech within its portfolio, has been granted planning permission to expand its factory in Sheffield, England.
The new building will hold over 400 pallets for stocks of tackle and manufactured goods ready for sale and 60 tonnes of silo space for bulk ingredients. Construction was due to start in January.

Carey Graves has been promoted to president of American Daiwa, the company’s United States operation. Graves replaces Trevor Teragaki, who has been elevated to board chairman and also represents Daiwa USA as a board member for Globeride, Inc., Daiwa’s Japan-based parent company. A project to create the world’s largest gold and copper mine in Alaska but which would have destroyed important salmon breeding grounds looks set to fail.

The Pebble Mine plan, in Alaska’s famed Bristol Bay, has been denied a permit from the US’ Army Corps of Engineers after a decade of wrangling, with officials saying it would be “contrary to the public interest.”
