Fly fishers seldom ask: “What’s OLD this year?”

Unless you are in the antique furniture business, prospective customers seldom ask “What’s old?”

From New England to the Pacific Northwest, from a New York suburb to San Francisco Bay, from America’s southeast heartland to the Rocky Mountains, the fly-fishing question is always the same: “What’s new this year?”

The answer for tens of thousands of long-rodders coast to coast and north to south is what they’ll see, touch and test at the Fly Fishing Show: All that’s new.

It’s where families make vacation plans; it’s where buddies can grab a beer and chat about that great rod they tested at the casting pond; a new reel, a new net, new fly lines or new waders.

What’s old are fly fishers spending fruitless days down on the river repeating failure. Today’s anglers are as likely to be fishing for baby tarpon in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, giant rainbows in Alaska, golden dorado in Brazil, or Arctic char in New Foundland.

Hot pursuit

Fly Fishing Show attendees travel in pursuit of their game and to the show for the knowledge about local and destination angling. Fly fishers buy airplane tickets, guide services, clothes, rods, reels and accessories… always accessories.

Only a few years ago, who could have imagined flying to the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean for bonefish, permit, and trevally. Fly fishing vacations are no longer just a cabin at the local lake.  It’s so much more either in an angler’s reality or in his or her dreams.

With seven venues, the 2025 Fly Fishing Show has it all for visitors from how-to-do-it beginner fly tying classes to casting demonstrations by the biggest names in the industry. Men and women whose names and faces appear in international magazines and online newsletters can be seen rubbing shoulders with first timers in the show’s aisles or the hotel bar.

“It’s been called the greatest gathering in the sport, and it is just that and more,” according to Ben Furimsky, show president and CEO.

“By spreading the seven shows over nine weeks, we hope to ease the travel burden for exhibitors from Europe, Asia, and Latin American countries who need to deal with long flights along with North American companies that are showing new products at multiple shows.”
