World Fly Fishing Day planned to celebrate sport

The global fly fishing community is seeking trade support for an annual World Fly Fishing Day, to recognise the sport and the benefits it brings.

The WFFD, currently a continuously growing Facebook group works to protect fishing resources, deliver fly fishing education and provide general fly fishing information on products, destinations, fly patterns and more.

Now it has announced plans for a World Fly Fishing Day on June 25th, with events already secured through Fly Fish USA Marketing, the UK’s with the Game Angling Instructors’ Association and in Italy, where it will be celebrated in the Italian Fly Fishing Museum and art gallery, Castel di Sangro, in coordination with the SIM – Scuola Italiana di Pesca a Mosca annual fly fishing fair

Since the campaign started in 2021, the group has gathered support from key players including Joan Wulff and Jack Dennis plus Solarez UV Resins, Ewing Feather Birds, Dr Slick, Fly Fishing America Magazine, Ahrex hooks, Mageyes  and Enrico Puglisi fibres.

WFFD’s Jim Krul explained: “World Fly Fishing Day is a special day to recognise and celebrate fly fishing everywhere and anywhere. Fly fishers can gather at a favourite fishing venue with friends, clubs, or simply a buddy to fish or have a little cook out – better yet, simply toast the day.

“Everyone seems to have their own holiday, from squirrel day to cricket day. We are hoping that should this annual day grow in interest among the trade, who could eventually host a day at their outlets or offer a sale down the road in anticipation of the day... something to think about.

“There is no money involved, no memberships or advertising fees.  It costs nothing to be a supporter, except acknowledging you support the event and day. We are looking for building blocks and support to create an annual worldwide holiday to recognise fly fishing as a great sport and one that can be shared by all.”
