Companies involved in sportfishing in Denmark have come together to found a national trade association to boost the industry.

The Danish Angling Association includes founding members representing tackle manufacturers, wholesalers, tackle shops, fishing guides, tourism, NGOs and boat and put and take operators.

Christen Stenild, country manager for Pure Fishing in Denmark, explained: “We cannot continue to develop and expand Danish angling without supporting fish populations and environment. Now is the time to invest to secure our future harvest.”

The Danish Sportfishing Association, representing private anglers, has welcomed the new trade association and sees important future collab opportunities.

Its chairman, Torben Kaas, added: “The sooner the Danish politicians understand and realise the trade, or at least the numbers and jobs involved, the better. A collaboration with the commercial part of the Angling business will benefit and assist our NGO when negotiating fish and angling politics.”

Although the Danish Angling Association was founded just a few weeks ago, a group of initiators has been lobbying for almost a year to finally emerge the trade association.

Danish Angling Association chairman, Peter Lyngby of Strip Strike Media, said: “At the moment we are overwhelmed by the initial support we have received from all branches of the angling trade in Denmark. Though we have only taken our first few humble steps as an organisation, we feel this is a big leap for danish angling.

“Everybody in the trade seems to have been waiting for a chance to unite, and we have already lined up an ambitious array of projects supporting fish and anglers across Denmark.”
