Rule change sees Mercury Marine back World Carp Classic

Updated regulations at World Carp Classic venue Lake Orellana in Spain have opened up a new chapter for the event, paving the way for marine engine maker Mercury to take the helm as a key sponsor.

The rule change – seen as a significant development – means modern four-stroke outboard motors will be permitted throughout the entire duration of the carp fishing event, which is being held from October 19th to 24th.

The move will allow enhanced mobility, efficiency and safety across one of Europe’s most spectacular carp fishing venues while further reinforcing the World Carp Classic's reputation as one of the most prestigious carp angling tournaments in the world.

As part of the deal, Mercury Marine will contribute a selection of premium outboard motors to the event’s already impressive prize table. These exceptional prizes will be awarded to the teams finishing in first, second and third place, adding even greater value and prestige to a championship that already attracts the very best carp anglers from across the globe.

The partnership will also be supported by Centro Náutico, Mercury’s authorised dealer in the region, which will provide technical assistance and operational support throughout the event, helping to ensure the highest standards of service for competitors and organisers alike.

World Carp Classic founder Ross Honey said: “This is a hugely significant moment for the World Carp Classic. The ability to use outboard motors throughout the competition brings Lake Orellana into line with the expectations of a modern international event and significantly enhances the experience for competitors.

“To welcome a global brand such as Mercury Marine at this pivotal moment is a tremendous endorsement of both the event and the future of competitive carp fishing at Orellana.

“Mercury represents innovation, performance and reliability on the water – qualities that perfectly reflect the spirit of the World Carp Classic. Their involvement adds even greater prestige to a championship that continues to grow year after year.”

Alberto Sanz Bustillo, marketing and communications director at Touron, Mercury’s official distributor for Spain and Portugal, added:

“We are proud to partner with the World Carp Classic and support one of the most respected events in international angling. The ability to use outboard motors throughout the competition creates an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the reliability, efficiency and performance of Mercury products in an environment where those qualities are essential.

“The event brings together competitors from more than 30 countries and provides an exceptional platform to showcase Mercury’s commitment to innovation, safety and excellence on the water. We look forward to supporting the event and congratulating the teams who will take home Mercury outboard motors as part of their success.”
