Tackle giant Orvis is on the hunt for an experienced fly fishing travel expert for what it says could be someone’s dream job in the destination fishing industry.
The role would be tailor-made for someone who understands that planning a fishing trip isn’t about logistics alone, it’s about helping someone experience the river they’ve dreamed about for years.
The right person for this role knows fly fishing inside and out ... the gear, the techniques, the destinations and the people who make these trips unforgettable.
They will help anglers around the world plan the trip of a lifetime, connecting them with Orvis-endorsed lodges and outfitters while delivering the kind of service that has defined the Orvis brand for more than 165 years.
Among the responsibilities will be selling world-class fly-fishing and wing-shooting trips, working directly with anglers via phone and email, matching travellers with the right lodges, guides, and destinations, managing bookings and customer relationships in Salesforce, coordinating with global travel partners and outfitters and, occasionally, leading Orvis group trips and visiting destinations.
Key attributes would include extensive knowledge of fly-fishing travel and equipment along with some knowledge of wing shooting destination travel, proven sales experience in a professional environment, preferably with a tour operator, a retail shop with a significant travel business, or a fly-fishing lodge or outfitter, experience with hosting anglers and fishing trips, both domestic or international, a passion for fly fishing, wing shooting, the outdoors and a desire help guests plan the trip of a lifetime.
Additionally, applicants should have exceptional email and phone etiquette, with strong written and verbal skills to communicate with customers and partners in a professional manner plus proficiency in Salesforce and Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
Primarily office-based at Orvis headquarters in Sunderland, Vermont, USA with hybrid flexibility.
